Lantern Workshop Volunteer

Saturday and Sunday afternoons in March 2020

We need you!! Our workshops rely on volunteers; you don't need to know how to make a lantern (we will teach you!)- you just need to be friendly and happy to get stuck in and help new people when they arrive to make a lantern. We are looking for 2-3 lead volunteers for each workshop and then as many other willing hands as possible. If you are interested please email us sharrowlanterns@gmail.com

Your main role is to ensure the workshops run smoothly, people feel included and to provide advice on how to build a lantern.

The Role of Workshop Volunteers:

  • Attend all sessions you have signed up to. Arrive in plenty of time;

  • Wear one of the high-vis vests provided so that people know you’re a volunteer;

  • Help set up the equipment and refreshments;

  • Welcome people who come to make lanterns and help them to get started;

  • Continue to help people who are struggling with their lanterns;

  • Help to move lanterns to storage;

  • Let people know that they can take materials away to make a lantern at home;

  • Tidy up so that the venue is left in the state you found it in and our materials are stored in a neat and tidy manner.

Lantern Making Workshop Delivery Team

Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings in Feb and March 2020

You don't need to know how to make a lantern, it's easy, we will teach you at a training session.

You do need to be confident in talking to strangers, friendly and welcoming, also a bit arty and crafty. Most importantly you need to be ready to help new people to make their own lantern. All children are accompanied by adults so you will not be responsible for anyone.

You'll need to be very good at communicating so we know when you can help and when you can't. At the weekends Workshops run from 1-5pm, while the evening Workshops run from 5-8pm. You'll need to arrive a little before to set up, and a little later to tidy up.

Each workshop will need one very experienced volunteer to be the leader. That's someone who is extra confident to tell people when to tidy or be careful. If you are interested please email us sharrowlanterns@gmail.com

Your main role is to ensure the workshops run smoothly, people feel included and to provide advice on how to build a lantern.

Workshop Leader Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with the caretaker at the venue.

  • Supervise the session in general (be aware of health and safety, make sure people tidy up in plenty of time etc.);

  • Ensure the equipment and lanterns are carefully stored and the venue is left clean and tidy;

  • Notify us when materials need to be ordered sharrowlanerns@gmail.com.
